"A Light in the Darkness"

"Mother, tell us another story...tell us about the one where the Dark General meets the Good Princess!!!" pleaded the young child. The beautiful woman looked at her daughter...

"Always a romantic," she thought. "All right" she said, "as long as your brother doesn't mind".

The young boy quickly shook his head. No, he didn't mind. The beautiful woman smiled at the twins. She knew this was their favorite story. As she looked at them, she took in their light pink hair, not unlike hers, and their aqua eyes-almost like emeralds. In that aspect, they took after their father. As the children lay in their beds in the high castle turret, she began the wonderful tale of Rini and Malachite's love.

"A long time ago, before you were even a glimmer in my eye, (the children snickered at this, imagining themselves starting out as a glimmer in anyone's eye) there was a young girl. Her name was Rini. She was a lovely child, a princess born of the Royal Moon Kingdom. She was a traveler at a very young age. She travelled across time looking for a very special crystal, the Imperium Silver Crystal."

"Mother? Is that the crystal around your neck?"

The woman nodded, not at all disturbed at the interruption. "Now, during Rini's travels, she came across her mother who was at the time, a pretty girl of 14."

"I know!! I know!!" yelled the woman's daughter, quickly sitting up in her bed, much to the gray cat's disturbance, who was perched on the child's tummy. "That was Serena, soon to be Queen Serenity! And the Beautiful Sailor Scout, Sailor Moon!!!" the child gasped out the last part, for that was quite a mouthful. The Lovely lady smiled.

"Yes, my dear, it was. It makes me happy to know you are finally paying attention in your history classes (the child grimaced at the mention of school)! Now, Rini found the Crystal, and defeated the Evil Forces trying to capture her and harm her mother and her friends. When she returned home, she found her mother and father waiting for her with open arms. She lived happily for a short while, then the forces of evil started brewing again..."

And thus begins the story of Rini and Malachite's love...

* * * * * *

Rini skipped down a walkway in one of the many palace gardens humming a tune she had learned in 'music speculation' recently. She liked to call it 'music speculation' because it seemed to her that all her teacher did was dissect the musical qualities of songs. She tried to tell her parents that the class wasn't working for her, and she would much rather be learning about art or how to protect the world. Naturally, her parents would smile that "we know something you don't know" smile and tell her it was for her own good.

Well, she figured, at least she would learn some new tunes in the class, and every harmony of them; because of this, she taught herself how to whistle the parts of the lead and the harmony. She wasn't sure how she did this, it was kind of like putting her tongue to the roof of her mouth and moving....well, she wasn't sure how she did it; she just knew she did it! The lovely girl Rini was headed to her favorite spot on a hill over looking Crystal Tokyo. Only she and the Sailor Scouts were permitted there, by her orders of course. It was her special spot! It was where she could look out over all of the city, and at the big crystalline castle sitting in the middle of it, like a large block of beautifully polished quartz... NO! A big one hundred billion carat DIAMOND! She smiled at that notion. She was sure she was the only girl to ever live in a big diamond, for she was the Imperial Princess. The one who was to inherit the throne from the Imperial Queen. When she was old enough, of course.

While she was pondering about her house, a strange boy was peeking at her from behind a tree. He had thought the hill would be empty for a while, and he had come to rest in peace from his harsh military training. When he had heard the girl coming, he hid himself behind the tree to make sure she wasn't a direct enemy (she would always be an enemy, direct or indirect, because she was from Earth, but an indirect enemy was worse than a direct one. They knew where he came from and could easily harm, or even kill him).

As he peered around the large cherry tree, he noticed how beautiful the girl was. He noticed the pink pig-tails, the deep amber eyes that when in the sunlight looked almost red. He noticed the way she sat so regally, her legs folded under her, like a princess. He didn't know how right he was. He leaned a little farther around the cherry tree, and stepped on a twig, making a loud CRACK!

Rini heard the noise and turned around suddenly. She gasped at the strange boy. "Who are you?" she demanded. She was too surprised that someone was watching her that her mouth ran out of words. She hoped she could catch it before it got to far and left her speechless.

"I..I..I'm...Sorry, you were just so beautiful that i couldn't help but watch you!" the boy stammered as he fought to find something to say; it seemed he ran out of words to say, too. Rini, being only five at the time, was unaccustomed to such comments, and found herself blushing an unbecoming shade of crimson.

"Boy!! Come here! Let me see you!" she said, as she noted just how handsome his face was (she owned the maturity of a girl twice her age, due to her travels and saving the world). As the boy strode purposefully forward, she stared at his being. He was tall, slightly slender, and had light bluish/gray hair. She loved the way the cherry blossoms clung to his hair, making it look like he were a part of a beautiful spring dance. She then noticed his eyes, the most startlingly green eyes she had ever seen. She then noticed his clothes.

"You are from the Negaverse!" she exclaimed, hoping slightly she was wrong, and he had only donned the clothing.

"I am, and my name is Malachite. I am going to be the Fourth General of Queen Beryl's army. We are going to take over the Earth, in the name of the Negaverse. Who are you to make demands of me?" The boy felt his dander rising because of the negativity of the girl's comment.

"I am Rini, the Imperial Princess of Crystal Tokyo!!! SOON TO BE QUEEN!!! and I DO NOT appreciate your yelling at me, swine!!!" The children were soon fighting, being both stubborn (as they like to say, others say they are spoiled rotten brats), and of a young age. Even though Rini was quite mature, sometimes her true age came out, and this was quite a time. Malachite was only seven. Malachite was so angry, his aura started glowing, which frightened Rini. She stepped back and whimpered. Even though she was fronting a tough exterior, she closed her eyes.

"Malachite! She is weak! Destroy her! She is the enemy! If you destroy her, it will make it all the more easy for us to take over the world!!!"

"Kunzite!!!" Malachite recognized the voice as his own, for it was Kunzite, Malachite's identical twin brother.

"She is only a girl; I can't." He was hiding the fact he could not hurt a creature that put to shame the cherry blossoms falling around them. "I will NOT!!" he exclaimed as he opened a portal to the Negaverse and slipped through. Rini blinked her eyes a few times, and decided it was best if she didn't tell anyone about the strange boy.

"It had to be a dream," she thought to herself, because when she opened her eyes, he was gone, and she was lying down. "What a strange boy...if only he were real...."
